Judgment - One of the Common Causes Of Divorce

How is your marriage doing? What do you see when you look at your spouse? Do you realize what you see has absolutely nothing to do with them and everything to do with you? Do you remember the story of the traveler going from one city to another? He met a fellow sitting by a well. As the old man drew a drink of water for the traveler he inquired as to where the traveler was headed. The traveler stated he was going to the next town and asked what kind of folks lived there. The old man asked what kind of folks lived from where this guy come. His response was they were all scalawags and thieves and no good bums. The old man replied they are just like that in the next town.

A short time later another traveler came along. The scene was repeated with the traveler asking what sorta folks lived in the next town. Again the question was asked and answered thusly. They are the nicest folks I ever did see. I never saw a more generous and helpful lot anywheres.  The old man stated the traveler would find the same kind of folks in the next town.

What these two travelers were looking at was a reflection of themselves. It was their outlook toward people. We get what we look for. Life and people are a reflection of ourselves. If we do no like what we see in our mate, look deep inside because somewhere in there the same tendency lies of ourselves.

The sad thing is, mirrors do not become what they reflect, but people do. Have you ever seen someone tell a child they are stupid? As you well know, tell that child he is stupid enough times and he will become stupid. He will have become what he reflected.

If you are not seeing a loving, kind, supportive and affectionate mate, perhaps they have become what they reflected. Perhaps what you are really looking for are causes of a divorce. You really don't want to be married at all? Because that is where you are headed.

If you do want to save your marriage, now you know you can change them by changing what you see. See that kind, loving, supportive and affectionate mate and they will change. Even if they do not change at all, you will.

The truth is not an easy pill to swallow. I know. I almost choked on it a few times. It is a matter of what is important to you. Things don't matter, people do. You married this individual because you saw some great things in them and you liked what you saw. Look for those great things again and you will find them reflected back to you once more.

Here is a hint. You may not have gone into your marriage with your eyes wide open, but you can go through the rest of your marriage with your eyes half closed. You can spend the remainder of your days looking for the good and positive, ignoring what could be negative and bad. Look at the glass as half full, not half empty.

You have a gem of great worth in the form of your spouse. Treat them like you would a million dollar race horse.
