Finding a suitable exercise program to go with your weight loss diet can be a challenge but when all have been considered, for various reasons nothing beats a floor-based workout routine. Whether you go to a gym or set aside floor space at home, similar benefits will apply. First you can decide whether to exercise in the morning which suits some people, or after work, or in the mid afternoon when the children are off your hands. A regular time is best, to add to your sense of routine. Your choice of time may depend upon whether you find the exercise to be relaxing before going to bed, or highly stimulating to make you active all the day. At home you may find music to exercise by, or a special workout video, and at the gym you will have an instructor. Choose one who gives clear instructions and allows plenty of time for warm up and cool down. At home, make sure that you cannot be seen from outside the house, and turn off your telephone – you will need to avoid interruptions if you want your workout to be a success. Also at home, and at the gym, make sure that you have enough clear space around you to do your exercises properly. Test the space that you will need before you get carried away with your exercises and end up banging your elbow on the cupboard door, or hitting your neighbor on the jaw.

Another
thing that you will need whether at home or in the gym is a personal rubber exercise mat so that you will have a comfortable base to work from, which you can always cover with a towel, depending upon which types of exercise you are doing. Another accessory is to have a large full length mirror, such as you will find in a gym – this is not so much for posing around, but for checking that your posture is right and that you are making your moves correctly.

Something that may be overlooked is to buy yourself a stylish outfit specially for your workout session, this has great psychological advantages in making you look and feel the part, and chances are you will perform better than when wearing tired and faded clothes.

The benefits of a floor based workout routine is that either you don’t have to travel, or else know exactly how long it will take you to get there, the routine can be lengthened or shortened to suit your available time and you can adjust how hard you work out during the time of the session. The most important thing is to set aside the time and to make sure that you do your routines every day, or whatever times you have set down to do them.

Be prepared for a slow start as you get used to the movements and learn the routines, unless you have natural aptitude it can take some time to learn and integrate all of the movements in a workout routine.
