What’s the first thing you do when you purchase a refurbished cell phone? If you’re like most people, you waste little time in getting acquainted with your phone and checking out all of the special features that it comes with. But do you ever check out the safety features that are associated with your phone? Did you even know that your phone possesses safety features? If not, now is as good time as any to learn about the safety features of your phone and turn your phone into a reliable safety device.
Add Safety Contacts to Your Contact List
During an emergency situation, most people dial 911. However, 911 is not the only number that you may need to call during an emergency. Take the time to enter all emergency contact numbers into your phone as well as relatives and family friends that you may not speak to on a regular basis and who's numbers you may not remember off the top of your head.
Don’t know who to enter? Think about all of the things you do each day. If you work in an office, there is likely an emergency number that you should call such as the number for on-site security or for the building manager. If you go to school, enter the number for campus police into your phone. Always think local. In case of an emergency, local agencies will be able to respond quicker than agencies that need to travel to your location.
Be sure to enter emergency numbers for your pet and auto as well. Include veterinary contacts and all contact numbers for your mechanic, auto-insurance company, tow company, etc.
Emergency Text Message
During an emergency, there is often enough time to write and send text messages. But a weak signal or an inability to speak may restrict your ability to place a call. Instead of trying to compose a text message during an emergency situation, pre-write drafted text messages and save them to your phone. You can pull up the messages and send them when the need arises. When drafting messages, think of what you would need to say during different scenarios.
Some used Sprint cell phones come equipped with emergency texting features that allow you to communicate with people even if your physical capabilities are limited. By simply pressing the same key over and over, usually the volume key, a pre-written message is sent to select people on your contact list. When you receive a call after sending the emergency text, you do not have to pick up the phone to answer. The call will be automatically connected.
There is little time to think and act during an emergency situation. Setting your cell phone up to deal with an emergency situation will eliminate the time it takes for you to call for help during a crisis and will allow you to focus on the emergency itself instead of worrying about what to do with your cell phone.
